The weekend is almost upon us, and we could actually get a little taste of spring weather!
That will make it a great time to visit Downtown York, home to charming boutique shops, a creative dining scene and public art perfect to explore when the sun is shining.
If you haven’t made plans yet, here are just a few things to this weekend. You can also find other fun events on our Downtown Calendar.
4. Dine at the newly renovated York Blue Moon
York Blue Moon will cut the ribbon on its new expansion at 4 p.m. Saturday, making it a good time to visit one of Downtown York’s best restaurants.
Already a favorite happy hour spot, the newly expanded York Blue Moon is now handicapped-accessible and features a green space and a larger bar with a new bar menu, cocktails, beer and wine. Dishes on the new bar menu will include Tuna Tartare, Meatball Sandwich or a Crab and Brie Quesadilla made with a Ginger Marshmallow Fluff.
And those are just a few of the creative dishes Chef Darrell Tobin offers up for diners.
3. Easter Bunny hops into Central Market
The Easter Bunny is coming to Central Market for the Downtown Bunny Hop on Saturday. Bring the kids and have their photos taken with the Easter Bunny. They’ll also enjoy prize eggs, free crafts and vendor specials.
Afterward, enjoy lunch at one of the market’s many eateries. Then, head to the Capitol Theatre at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts for a 1 p.m. showing of “Hop,” an animated tale of the heir apparent Easter Bunny who would rather just play the drums. Children younger than 12 receive free admission.
2. Mixed Media Workshop at Taste Test
Taste Test will turn into an art studio Thursday, when Prime Art Supply hosts a mixed media class at the popular Royal Square restaurant.
York artist Jess Lee will teach attendees how to experiment with many techniques on synthetic paper known as Yupo. By the end of the night, attendees will leave with a piece of art they can be proud to hang at home.
All materials will be provided – just show up ready for a fun night of art with your friends. Drinks will be available from Taste Test.
Space is limited, so register now to save a spot and start your weekend a little early!
1. Collusion to raise money for fallen firefighters
The York community has rallied together following the loss of two York firefighters, Ivan Flanscha and Zachary Anthony, earlier this month.
In the wake of the tragedy, Downtown York businesses lit up their facades with red lighting to honor the fallen heroes and the community has gathered together to pay their respects.
The outpouring of support will continue this Saturday, when Collusion Tap Works hosts a raffle and fundraiser to support the affected families. Raffle tickets will be available from noon through 7:30 p.m., with winners drawn at 8 p.m.
A rare and special tap will also offer cash-only pours to raise even more money for the families.
