5 Things to Do During First Friday July

We are excited to show our patriotic pride during this month’s First Friday celebration in Historically Edgy Downtown York! The city is filled with red, white and blue, a business is celebrating a grand opening and there is even a chance for you to live like a hamster. Curious? We thought so! Check out 5 things you don’t want to miss at First Friday July:

1.)    Downtown Businesses Patriotic Window Displays

Over 10 downtown businesses are celebrating America’s birthday with a patriotic window display contest. The winner will have a photo of their display featured on the big screen at the York Revolution Stadium during the July4York celebrations. Although the contest will be over by Friday, you can still enjoy all of the beautiful windows, but if you happen to make it downtown before Thursday, check out the displays and cast a vote for your favorite here!

2.)    How to Become a Hamster

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a hamster running in a wheel? If you stop by downtown’s Continental Square, you can find out! You Are the Hamster is an interactive snow cone machine, where you get to make the snow cones yourself. By running in the wheel, you are shaving your own ice! Who knew becoming a hamster is the perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day?

3.)    New Makers Space in the Market District

A grand opening of the new upstairs studio space at The Watchmakers Daughter is taking place this First Friday. At 2:30 p.m., all are invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration of its new makers space. In honor of this special event, local artist, Rita Whitney will be live painting inside the shop. Come congratulate The Watchmaker’s Daughter on its new adventure in Downtown York!

4.)    Let Loose and Line Dance in Continental Square

At 7 p.m., grab your boots and head down to Continental Square for some good ol’ fashioned line dancing! On the corner of Market and George St., there will be a stage playing all your favorite music to get down to. Continue the patriotic party and dance your heart out in the middle of the city!

5.)     July 4th Flowers of Foster’s

Wrap your favorite flowers into a bouquet at Foster’s Flower Shop, located on N. Beaver St. Red tulips, white daisies, and blue orchids will make the perfect patriotic combination. Stop by Foster’s for the perfect Fourth of July bouquet!
