Downtown York Ready to Give Local

May 4 is First Friday, but it’s also the inaugural Give Local York Give Day!

The 24-hour giving spree aims to raise $1 million for more than 200 nonprofits across York County, all during a full day of community celebrations that will spill over into First Friday in Downtown York.

From a Downtown Inc Happy Hour reception all the way to the big reveal at Central Market at midnight, here’s a list of Give Local activities that will make Downtown York an even more vibrant place to spend your First Friday.

4:30 p.m.
Happy Hour Reception with Downtown Inc
2 E. Market St.

Join Downtown Inc staff and members of the Downtown Inc Board of Directors for a Happy Hour Reception prior to the start of First Friday! Enjoy beer, wine and light refreshments while using the Giving Station set up in the Downtown Inc lobby to make your Give Local York donation!

The Sensory of Art with Jessica & Friends
7 E. Market St. 

Various forms of art will be on display and available for purchased created by the individuals participating in our Pathway Services day programs. These stunning creations are formed through using sensory stimulation allowing touch, smell, hear and sight to guide our individuals as their artwork takes shape into something beautiful.

During First Friday we will be making bookmarkers using sensory techniques. Everyone who stops in can make a bookmarker.

JFS Music for Memories
MarketView Arts, 35 W. Philadelphia St. 

Music from the 50s, 60s and 70s will be broadcast and listeners will “name that tune” for a chance to win a gift basket. Hillel students will also be sharing opportunities for attendees to donate to Jewish Family Services right there!

My Journey Art Show
York City Hall, 135 S. George St. 

Creative expressions around the theme of “My Journey” will be available for viewing during the opening reception of Bell's Mental Health Awareness Month art show exhibiting at York City Hall. Proclamation by Mayor Michael Helfrich at 5 p.m. Live music and light refreshments throughout the evening. Meet the artists and speak with Bell Social Rehabilitation program staff.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Cornerstone Ice Cream shop reopening for the season! The first 300 people who come in get a free one-scoop ice cream sundae with all the fun toppings!

Roving GYDance(r's)
Beaver Street and surrounding Downtown York Streets

GYDance will have three groups (about 10 dancers each group) roving the streets and performing and demo-ing dance. This will include ballet variations, hip-hop choreo and young novelty dance along with faculty and student ambassadors helping everyone - “Dance Your Life”! We will also carry iPads reminding everyone we are participating in Give Local York and hope they will consider supporting GYDance.

Restorative Relationships with Cornerstone Youth Home
Cherry Lane Park, Downtown York

Cornerstone Youth Home will run small, short circles to share a restorative practice strategy, focusing on resiliency, during First Friday in Cherry Lane Park.

Donations & Libations with Family First Health at Tutoni's

Family First Health will be hosting a happy hour featuring 2 cocktails specially crafted for the event. A portion of the proceeds from featured drinks will be donated to Family First Health through Give Local York. Giving stations will be a set up in the TT bar.

Tavern Tasting with York County History Center & York County Bar Foundation

Colonial Complex, 157 W. Market St.

Join the History Center and the York County Bar Association for a Tavern Tasting at the Colonial Complex. Beer samples, first floor tours of the Gates House, Constitutional Conversations in the Tavern and music by Indian Summer Jars. Show you gave to any charity for Give Local York or give $10 at the gate to enter.

Tours will leave Central Market every hour and are FREE during First Friday with your donation to a Give Local charity (tips are still great though!).
