York Factory Whistle Tradition to Continue
The Engineering Society of York, York Factory Whistle Concert Committee, York County Community Foundation and METSO Industrial Minerals, Inc are proud to announce that the popular Factory Whistle Concert will again fill the early Christmas morning air in York, PA. The concert will begin at 12:15 a.m. on Friday, December 25th. Through the generous donations of community businesses and residents, whistlemaster Don Ryan and his two sons, Scott and Mark will present the 25-minute concert using the variable-pitched whistle now installed at METSO Minerals, 240 Arch Street. Don will be celebrating his 61st anniversary in doing this truly one-of-a-kind concert in the world.
For the second year in its history, people from around the world will be able to view the movements of the Ryan family playing the whistle streaming on his website at www.yorkpafactorywhistle.com , visit out FaceBook at YorkPaWhistle or download the Factory Whistle Master app from your favorite app store. Streaming will begin at 12:00 a.m. Also, a vendor selling hot cocoa and snacks will be in the Santander Stadium North Queen Street parking lot. All proceeds and donations will benefit future factory whistle concerts.
A practice concert is scheduled for Saturday, December, 19th at 12:00 p.m. The practice will last approximately 45 minutes. Don Ryan will be available for interviews from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The whistle can easily be heard within a 5-mile radius of METSO Minerals and depending upon the wind, the whistle has been reported from as far away as 10 miles.
