YORK, PA (October 21)--Downtown Inc has moved its offices to the “Golden Swan,” the two-story, Federal-style building at 2 E. Market St., right on Continental Square. The building, once known as the Weiser Building, dates back to the early 1800s, if not earlier. It was the site of Newswanger's shoe store and was used most recently as offices by Wells Fargo, which has a bank branch next door.
“The building is in the heart of York's central business district, where Downtown Inc focuses its mission,” says Sonia Huntzinger, Executive Director of Downtown Inc. “It has space available on the first-floor, which makes it conducive to walk-in traffic, and was already configured for offices. Downtown Inc doesn't want to take up space that could otherwise be used for retail,” Huntzinger says. Part of the Downtown Inc’s mission includes helping attract retailers to downtown.
Downtown Inc is the organization working to enhance and encourage investment in York’s central business district. We do that through business recruitment and retention; advertising, marketing and special events; beautifying the landscape and improving physical elements; and working with local police to make downtown a safe place to visit. www.downtownyorkpa.com
