YORK, PA (February. 2016) – Downtown Inc today announced the departure of its executive director, Sonia Huntzinger. Huntzinger will remain in her role through March 11, 2016 while the organization’s Board of Directors initiates steps toward a search for a new Executive Director and plan an orderly transition.
Huntzinger plans to start a job March 21 with Chester County, where she will work primarily in the city of Coatesville on economic development. The job will be similar to what she did in York.
Her daughter lives in Delaware County, and Huntzinger has one grandchild with another on the way.
"Any grandmother will recognize there's a great gravitational pull to get closer to those kids," she said.
Huntzinger has served as Executive Director since 2009, playing an important role in creating a thriving downtown community through advocacy, collaborative business recruitment and retention, economic redevelopment, and strategic promotional efforts.
“Over the past six years, Sonia Huntzinger has helped Downtown Inc play a vital role in building and sustaining our organization’s efforts to continually fulfill our mission of improving economic growth, enhancing our downtown’s appearance, and attracting foot traffic to our downtown York business improvement district,” said Downtown Inc Board President Krista Darr, “She leaves Downtown Inc in a very strong position and with an equally solid footing as we continue to grow our role in the future of York’s success.”
The Board of Directors is currently working on a transition effort and planning steps to identify its new Executive Director. Through this transition, Downtown Inc Deputy Director, Timothy Miller and the Board of Directors will provide leadership.
“My departure is truly bitter-sweet,” said Huntzinger. “I will miss the York community that I’ve worked so closely with for the past six years. Together we’ve accomplished a great deal. I leave confident, knowing that we’ve laid the foundation for a vibrant future for downtown York.”
Downtown Inc works to revitalize and foster reinvestment in downtown York. Its mission is to facilitate collaboration, advocate for, and promote downtown initiatives to improve the economic growth, enhance the physical appearance, and increase foot traffic throughout the downtown district, and to communicate to the community at large the positive activities taking place in downtown York.
