FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
YORK, PA – Downtown Inc will officially welcome Hamir’s Indian Fusion, the first restaurant to complete the Taste Test pop-up process and open its own location, to Downtown York during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the restaurant at 24 South George Street.
Thursday’s grand opening event continues a string of successes for chef and owner Hamir Patel. He held a soft opening for Hamir’s Indian Fusion in December and will expand his menu to include both lunch and dinner starting Monday. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, beginning next week.
“Downtown York is a place where creative ideas come to life, and the success of Hamir’s Indian Fusion and Taste Test is just the latest proof,” said Silas Chamberlin, Chief Executive Officer of Downtown Inc. “We welcome another excellent restaurant to Downtown York, which is quickly becoming known as one of the Mid-Atlantic’s top up-and-coming dining destinations with its diverse selection of cuisine.”
A picky eater, Patel began dabbling with cooking at home about five years ago, he said. He watched YouTube videos and turned to Food Network for inspiration as he set out to create his own unique flavors and tastes. Eventually, Patel put his culinary skills to use for a good cause, hosting a charity dinner after a friend and family member were both diagnosed with breast cancer.
While friends and family were well aware of Patel’s talents, he officially entered York’s culinary scene in 2016 when he earned the first audition for Taste Test, a pop-up restaurant project that doubles as an incubator.
Working out of YorKitchen in Central Market and later at the Taste Test café in the Royal Square neighborhood, Patel quickly won over diners with dishes that mixed flavors and culture. Hamir’s Indian Fusion menu features Tandoori Chicken, Indo-Thai Shrimp, Coconut Curry, Tikka Masala and much more.
“My journey started with supporters who carried me into Taste Test, where we discovered that the idea for Indian fusion was sustainable and a great fit for Downtown York. I’m looking forward to introducing new customers and friends to unique dishes made with the freshest ingredients,” Patel said. “I’m here because of the guests who come into my restaurant. I’m very grateful for their support.”
