YORK, PA – Downtown York’s signature First Friday event will expand in March with the Inaugural First Friday Latino, a celebration of Downtown York’s vibrant culture and strong sense of community.

First Friday Latino will become a standard monthly celebration of the Latino community in Downtown York and beyond. The celebration will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. every First Friday and take place at a new location each month. The March 2 event will feature salsa lessons from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by a DJ and band from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The York College Center for Community Engagement, 59 E. Market St., will host the Inaugural First Friday Latino. Latinos Unidos of York, the organizer of First Friday Latino, as well as Downtown Inc invite everyone to attend and enjoy live music, drinks, dancing, food and more.

Lou Rivera, a founder and organizer of First Friday Latino, saw an opportunity to expand First Friday’s reach to the Latino community after experiencing a similar networking event in Lancaster.

“York has a growing Latino community, and it’s time for us to engage in Downtown York and vice versa,” Rivera said. “First Friday brings out passionate Yorkers, and our Latino community is full of passionate people who care about our city and culture. It was only natural that we tie the two together.”

Downtown Inc, Downtown York’s improvement organization, is proud to partner with the Inaugural First Friday Latino.

“Downtown York is a place for everyone, and the introduction of First Friday Latino to our signature First Friday celebrations will further connect Downtown York and the people who make the city a vibrant place to live, work and play,” said Silas Chamberlin, CEO of Downtown Inc. “We look forward to the Inaugural First Friday Latino and invite everyone to enjoy the latest addition to First Friday.”

The Inaugural First Friday Latino will give attendees the chance to explore the world through delicious food. Tapas from El Serrano and Mi Caldero will feature flavors from Peru and Puerto Rico. HOLLA Spirits will provide tastings, and Tutoni’s will feature a signature cocktail.

Festivities will continue with live music from DJ Kid and Grupo Sabor Latino, salsa lessons and more.

In addition to fun activities, the Inaugural First Friday Latino will also serve as a forum to highlight achievements and work important to York’s Latino community.

The Inaugural First Friday Latino, in celebration of Women’s History Month, will also honor Angie Garrison, Linda Diaz and Delma Rivera for their efforts to bring relief aid to Puerto Rico following the devastation of Hurricane Maria. Part of the Puerto Rico Se Levanta group that collected funds, food, clothes and more for Puerto Rico, all three women traveled to the island to assist with recovery.

At 7 p.m., the YMCA of York and York County will also make a major announcement of great importance to the entire community. Media coverage is invited.

The Inaugural First Friday Latino thanks its sponsors and supporters, including Latinos Unidos of York, the Cultural Alliance of York County, the United Way of York County, Legends Hospitality, the York County Economic Alliance, Fulton Bank, HOLLA Vodka, the York College Center for Community Engagement, the York Revolution, C.S. Davidson, Tutoni’s and Downtown Inc, among many others.

First Fridays in Downtown York are a celebration of downtown shops, restaurants, cultural venues and nightlife hotspots presented by WellSpan Health in partnership with Downtown Inc. First Fridays take place the first Friday of every month from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
