FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
YORK, PA – Downtown Inc expects thousands of people to converge upon Downtown York to celebrate healthy, local and green living during the 10th Annual Go Green in the City on Saturday, April 21.
Downtown Inc, Downtown York’s improvement organization, organizes the free event each year. Running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Go Green in the City turns North Beaver Street, North Pershing Avenue, West Clarke Avenue and the surrounding areas into an interactive street fair featuring more than 50 vendors selling artisan crafts, green products and locally sourced foods.
In addition to downtown favorites, this year’s festival will feature food trucks such as Forno Bova and Mad Dash. Vegans will also be delighted to know Zwild Vegan’s and the COB vegan bakery will both be on hand.
Other local and fresh food highlights will include favorites such as PA Fudge Co., Epic Pickles, Sonnewald Natural Foods and York Fresh Food Farms.
Go Green visitors also will enjoy live music, including acts such as Groovatine, Star Bird Band, Dead White Men, Free Breakfast and Nick DiSanto, whose one-man-band show will delight attendees of all ages.
Children will also love the WITF Go Green Kids Zone and the live animals that visit Downtown York for the festival.
State Rep. Carol Hill-Evans will also host a free shredding event in Lafayette Plaza, at the corner of Pershing Avenue and Philadelphia Street, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Saturday, April 21. The shredding event is open to all residents of the 95th Legislative District. For more information, please contact Rep. Hill-Evans’ office at 717-848-9595.
This year, Go Green attendees will also have a chance to make York a greener city through York XL’s Clean & Green Challenge. Teams of 10 will compete to photograph, tag and pick up the most trash, posting their findings on the social media app, Litterati. Those interested may visit www.yorkxl.org for more information, including how to participate in the Clean & Green Challenge.
“Go Green in the City celebrates green living, and this year offers an opportunity to translate the spirit of the festival into direct action,” said Silas Chamberlin, CEO of Downtown Inc. “We invite everyone to enjoy Go Green in the City and consider ways they can experience Downtown York in a green way, including participating in the Clean & Green Challenge, shopping at our environmentally friendly shops, dining on farm-to-table fare or simply joining friends for a walk on the York County Heritage Rail Trail.”
Go Green in the City is presented by White Rose Credit Union and made possible with support from WITF, White Rose Bar & Grill, the Cultural Alliance of York County, Downtown York merchants and Downtown Inc.
