YORK, PA – Frank Sinatra, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller and many more musical greats graced the Valencia Ballroom during the heyday of swing, big band and jazz, inspiring people to cut a rug on the dance floor.
Now, Downtown Inc and the York County Economic Alliance invite everyone to “Dance Through the Decades” during the 2019 Masquerade Ball Presented by UPMC Pinnacle. This year’s celebration will take place 6-11 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, at the iconic Valencia Ballroom, 142 N. George St., in Downtown York.
Tickets are still available at DowntownYorkPa.com. All proceeds directly benefit Downtown Inc, Downtown York’s improvement organization and an affiliate of the York County Economic Alliance.
“One of the most anticipated parties of the year, the Masquerade Ball helps Downtown Inc highlight dynamic Downtown York venues, and we couldn’t be more pleased to showcase a historic gem like the Valencia,” said Elaine Bonneau, Director of Downtown Inc. “We’re planning several special surprises through the evening that will speak to the building’s storied history and can’t wait to enjoy a phenomenal evening with our friends.”
Previous Masquerade Ball locations have included the former Pewterex Foundry, the York County History Center’s Agricultural & Industrial Museum, Martin Library, Penn Market and the former post office building on South George Street.
Built in 1911, the Valencia was originally known as the Coliseum Ballroom and served as a lecture hall, gymnasium and entertainment venue. It’s proximity to the Western Maryland and Pennsylvania rail lines also made it an attractive stop for entertainers – especially during the Big Band era.
This year, fan-favorite Central City Orchestra will provide live music, with a few surprises sprinkled throughout the evening. Mezzanine Sponsor Klock Entertainment will also host a 1990s-themed party upstairs, giving attendees a blast of nostalgia that will bring memories of boy bands rushing back.
Additional entertainment will include the Susquehanna Style Scene Red Carpet Experience presented by CGA Law Firm, a caricature artist, tarot card readings, MINT Photo Booth, beer and wine raffles, and more.
While the event is black-tie optional, masks are required at the event.
An affiliate of the York County Economic Alliance, Downtown Inc is THE organization working to drive, enhance and encourage investment in York’s central business district through economic development, promotions, placemaking and public safety.
